Earth Hour is only a week away!
Great beginnings
Vote Pikachu for president of the world!
The meeting started off with a short and simple message by the president Lim Chin Yang who gave a brief introduction about the HELP Environmental Science Club and what we did.
We can only imagine what he was looking at on his phone...
Then we had a short icebreaking session for the members to get to know each other. For our first icebreaker, we asked everyone to get to know each other and remember everyone's name. Then we sat in a large circle. Our gamemaster, Siva randomly called out a name of a person in the group and the 2 persons next to the person in question will have to stand up immediately. If one was slower than the other, punishment ensued which our gamemaster was only too happy to give out.
Our gamemaster smiling devilishly as he asked the loser, Widad to make evil hand symbols while saying three embarassing things about herself.
The hapless victim happily obeying :)
After that, we had a second game for further bonding as if the earlier game wasn't already enough. At the start of the game, one person is handed the timer and he/she will have to choose a random amount of time. This person is then supposed to ask a question before passing it on to the next person. Each person is supposed to answer the question and then come up with another question before he/she can pass it on. If someone is still holding the timer when the timer runs out, then he/she is eliminated.
The president wracking his brains for an answer to the paradoxical question "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"
They say laughter is the best medicine for your heart :)
All in all, we all enjoyed the meeting and it was an absolute joy to see all the new faces and hear the laughter as we bonded. I will be looking forward to our upcoming club activities which will be posted on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hescgoesgreen/ and our blog: hescgoesgreen.blogspot.com. Earth Day 2010
HESC New Committee 2010/2011
Our last club meeting was a meaningful event as the old committee steped down and the new committee took over. Before the new committee members were announced, the presidential candidates, Arthur, Jack and Oong gave their speeches and the voting began.
The wining group for the Earth Hour 2010 Campaign was also announced while the votes were being counted. The wining team, Kimberly's group, won the limited edition t-shirts.
After a short break with food and beverages provided, the old committee gave out their certificates to committee members as well as members who had been active in the club.
The new committee was then announced as well as the new president of HESC, Arthur Lim Khai Shing. Congratulations Arthur! The new committee members are:
President: Arthur Lim
Treasurer : Shahreen
Secretary: Stephanie Ling
Project Directors: Kimberly Chok
Oong Zhu Chuen
Creative Director : Kai Shek
Publicity Director: Julia Halim
Public Relations Director: Jack Jacobs
Junior (White) & Senior (Black) Committee Of HESC :)
The meeing was a bittersweet event, as the old committee steped-down and the new committee steped-up. On behalf of the new committee, we hope to maintain the standards and fullfill all expectations of the club. We have big shoes to fill.
